The police have arrested the controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, in connection with allegations of criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, and character assassination against renowned Yoruba Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, commonly referred to as Osupa.
This arrest ensued following a petition filed by Osupa with the Kwara State Police Command, wherein he accused Portable of employing abusive and defamatory language that could potentially incite violence and tarnish his reputation.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Kwara Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, issued a statement on Sunday indicating that the Command acted in accordance with legal procedures after obtaining credible evidence to substantiate the claims made in the petition.
“The allegations presented in the petition are of a serious nature and include charges of criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting language,” the statement articulated.
With the authorization of a valid arrest warrant obtained from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, officers of the Kwara State Police Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where Portable was apprehended on Saturday, April 13, 2025, at approximately 7:25 PM.
The police spokesperson further noted that Portable was subsequently transported to Ilorin for continued investigation. “Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties,” she stated.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that Portable is currently in custody and will be charged in court without delay.
The statement reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is executed in a fair and transparent manner.
“We encourage the public to remain calm and to abstain from disseminating unverified information,” the statement concluded.
