This disclosure was made by Group Captain Ibrahim Bukar, representative of Defence Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, while addressing members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Iyana-Ipaja Lagos, during a sensitization campaign at the orientation camp.
Group Captain Bukar commended the resilience of communities and emphasized the military’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians amid wild applause by corp members.
He provided an overview of the Armed Forces’ operations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, highlighting key achievements.
Operation Hadin Kai in the Northeast led to the neutralization of 1,944 insurgents, arrest of 13,566 suspects, and rescue of 3,577 civilians. The operation also recovered over 16,988 arms and 48,485 rounds of ammunition, contributing significantly to improved security in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
In the Northwest, Operation FANSAN YAMMA resulted in 1,770 neutralizations, 3,073 arrests, and 2,515 rescues, alongside the seizure of 1,085 arms and 11,678 rounds of ammunition, effectively curbing banditry in states like Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Kaduna.
Operation Whirl Stroke in the North Central saw 704 criminals neutralized and 9,322 arrested, with 1,960 civilians rescued and over 5,635 arms recovered. The operation has enhanced security in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba, enabling safer conditions for farmers.
In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe neutralized 137 criminals, arrested 3,545, rescued 1,012 civilians, and secured over 50,000 rounds of ammunition, bolstering the protection of economic assets in the Niger Delta.
The Southeast has witnessed relative peace through Operation UDOKA, which recorded 352 neutralizations, 2,203 arrests, and 349 rescues, with 35,985 rounds of ammunition recovered from criminal elements in Imo, Anambra, and Abia states.
In the Southwest, Operation AWATSE focused on Lagos and Ogun, resulting in 12 neutralizations, 3,254 arrests, 103 rescues, and the recovery of nearly 79,000 rounds of ammunition.
Summarizing the nationwide operations, Group Captain Bukar reported over 4,919 criminals neutralized, 34,983 arrests made, 9,516 civilians rescued, 26,059 arms recovered, and more than 260,000 rounds of ammunition seized.
“These figures underscore the effectiveness of joint military operations and the vital role of civil-military collaboration in securing the nation,” he said.
Bukar reiterated that the Armed Forces remain partners in progress, not occupiers, and called for stronger community engagement, intelligence sharing, and sustained dialogue to ensure lasting peace.
