RED CHAMBER: Senate Sets Up Committee To Oversee Rivers Administrator

‎The Nigerian Senate has set up a 20-member ad-hoc committee to officially take over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.

‎The committee is headed by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, with Rufai Hanga as deputy, and includes eighteen other senators.

‎The announcement was made on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during the resumption of plenary.

‎Akpabio highlighted the importance of the committee’s mandate, stating that its role was critical in ensuring effective legislative oversight in Rivers State.

‎This move is part of a coordinated legislative response alongside a similar committee established by the House of Representatives to oversee the state’s affairs during the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.
