Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has expressed serious concern over the technical failures that affected the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), warning it threatens trust in Nigeria’s education system.
At a press briefing, Kalu praised JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for admitting the errors impacting nearly 380,000 candidates in the South-East and Lagos, and offering resit opportunities.
However, he stressed these measures cannot undo the trauma suffered including the tragic suicide of a candidate.
He said,Technical investigations revealed a critical system patch was not installed at 157 centres, causing thousands of result errors. An independent audit by Educare Technical Team confirmed the issue, tracing over 14,000 faulty records to affected centres.
Kalu proposed a five-point reform plan: a full technical review, independent system audit, protection for affected candidates, transparent result data release, and stricter system monitoring.
He assured candidates that the National Assembly will carry out a thorough oversight, urging JAMB to restore public trust and prevent future lapses.
