LOWER CHAMBER: House Charges Ministry to Restore Power in Badagry, wants Cholera Outbreak Contained

‎The House of Representatives has ordered the Federal Ministry of Power and Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to restore electricity in Badagry West LCDA urgently to support water systems and health facilities.

‎It further amongst others urged the Federal Ministry of Health and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to deploy surveillance teams, medical resources, and awareness campaigns to Badagry West immediately to contain cholera outbreak.

‎These followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance raised during plenary by Hon. Sesi Whingan.

‎Hon. Whingan expressed concern that a four-year power outage has crippled water systems, vaccine storage, and health facilities, directly fueling the spread of cholera in the area.

‎The House while commending local health workers and volunteers risking their lives to combat this crisis called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development to coordinate urgent relief, including clean water and sanitation facilities.

‎It further directed National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)to provide sanitary materials, water purification tablets, and disinfectants to affected communities

‎The House Committees on Healthcare Services, Power, Rural Electrification, and Emergency Preparedness has therefore been mandated to visit Badagry West LCDA to assess the outbreak, power outage, and hospital relocation, ensuring compliance, and report back within three weeks.
