Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla said that a whole of society approach is required to tackle the ongoing counter insurgency, counter terrorism and other forms of emerging security threats bedeviling the nation.
Ogalla made the remark while commissioning three newly constricted worship centres located at Admiralty Estate in Abuja as part of activities to mark the 69th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
He said kinetic and non kinetic approaches can not only be the solutions to the multifaceted threats to national security, but also spiritual approaches is also needed to address the nation’s security challenges.
”We recognize that the challenges that we have seen these days, the challenges of insurgency, the challenges of terrorism, and other forms of irregular threats that are facing us, are challenges that require a whole of society approach.
”While they look for the military solutions, they also believe that the spiritual solution is part of what is needed to be able to surmount security challenges facing the nation”. “He said
According to the Navy Chief, these places of worship are key to shaping the minds and characters of personnel towards attaining the constitutional mandates of defending the nation against external and internal aggressions.
He added that the event yet marks another milestone achievement in the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to holistic welfare of its personnel, in both body and spiritual upliftment.
Ogalla stated, “We want to thank the Senior Officers Service, and all those who are working and retired, Chaplains, Engineers, Artisans, Officers and Ratings, who laboured with dedication, and to all of you who are well-wishers, who have graced this occasion with your presence.
”As we continue the 69th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, we pray for success, safety and joy, with the hope that you will be able to continue to serve the people of Nigeria.
The Catholic and Protestants Churches which have the capacity of about a thousand each, while the mosque has about a thousand and two hundred capacity was contextualized in 2019 and came to completion in April, 2025.
